a. Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering

1. Best Research Paper
This award is given in recognition of the outstanding research paper appearing in this journal during the 12-month period ending June 30 prior to the selection of the award. The award is presented annually at an appropriate meeting, normally the annual meeting of the EWRI.
Nominations can come from any source, but are normally expected from the Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering Publications' Committee. Nominations from this source should reach the Awards Committee chair by November 1. At large nominations must be submitted to the Awards Committee no later than November 1.
In the event that no nominations are received, the Awards Committee may formulate a recommendation of its own or decline to submit a nomination. Generally, it is preferred that the award be given to a paper not otherwise recognized in ASCE. The award can be presented to papers with more than one author and recipients need not be members of ASCE.
The award consists of a mounted certificate.
2. Best Applied Paper
This award is given in recognition of the outstanding applied paper appearing in this journal during the 12-month period ending June 30 prior to the selection of the award. The award is presented annually at an appropriate meeting - normally the annual meeting of the EWRI.
Nominations can come from any source, but are normally expected from the Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering Publications Committee. Nominations from this source should reach the Awards Committee chair by November 1. At large nominations must be submitted to the Awards Committee no later than November 1.

This award is given in recognition of consistently outstanding and detailed technical review for the journal during the 12-month period ending June 30 prior to the selection of the award. The award is presented annually at an appropriate meeting - normally the annual congress of the EWRI.
Nominations can come from any source, but are normally expected from the Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering Publications Committee. Nominations from this source should reach the Awards Committee chair by November 1. At large nominations must be submitted to the Awards Committee no later than November 1.
In the event that no nominations are received, the Awards Committee may formulate a recommendation of its own or decline to submit a nomination.

The Codes and Standards Activities Committee - 1 award is given to past chairs of the Codes and Standards Activities Committee. The award is given just prior to or immediately after expiration of term. The awards committee of CSAC and ASCE staff manager has the responsibility of selecting the award. The award is normally presented at the annual Congress of the EWRI. The award is normally a framed certificate.
2. Codes and Standards Activities Committee - 2
The Codes and Standards Activities Committee - 2 award is given to CSAC members and ASCE Board of Direction members appointed to serve on CSAC. The award is given just prior to or immediately after expiration of term. The awards committee of CSAC and ASCE staff manager has the responsibility of selecting the award. The award is normally presented at the annual Congress of the EWRI. The award is normally a framed certificate

The Codes and Standards Activities Committee - 3 award is given as a special award to Chairs of Technical Committees who served as advisors and/or actively supported the ASCE Standards Program. The award is given on an as needed basis. The awards committee of CSAC and ASCE staff manager has the responsibility of selecting the award. The award is normally presented at the annual Congress of the EWRI. The award is normally a framed certificate
4. Council or Division Executive Committee - 1
The Council/Division Executive Committee C/EC -1 is given to Chair of Council or Division Executive Committee. The award is given at the expiration of term. The award can be given during a schedule meeting of Council or Division Executive Committee. The CSAC awards committee and ASCE staff manager have the responsibility for the award. The award is normally presented at the annual Congress of the EWRI. The award is normally a framed certificate.
5. Council or Division Executive Committee - 2
The Council/Division Executive Committee C/EC - 2 is given to a Council or Division Executive Committee member. The award is given at the expiration of term. The award can be given during a schedule meeting of Council or Division Executive Committee. The CSAC awards committee and ASCE staff manager have the responsibility for the award. The award is normally an unframed certificate in a folder.
6. Council or Division Executive Committee - 3
The Council/Division Executive Committee C/EC - 3 is given the Chair of a Standards Committee. This award shall only be given when the work of the Chair and his committee results in a published ASCE standard. More than one certificate may be awarded if more than one Chair was involved during the period of the standard's development. The Council or the Division Executive Committee in qualifying such persons for awards shall determine the extent and value of services rendered by prior chairs.
The awards shall be a framed certificate and given at a reasonable time after the standard has been submitted for publication or has been actually published. The award may be presented at a scheduled meeting of the Council or the Division Executive Committee or a meeting deemed appropriate for the recipient.
7. Council or Division Executive Committee - 4
The Council/Division Executive Committee C/EC - is given to any member of a standards committee, subcommittee, or task committee who has done exemplary work leading to the publication of an ASCE standard. This award shall only be given when the work of the Chair and his committee results in a published ASCE standard. More than one certificate may be awarded if more than one Chair was involved during the period of the standard's development. The Council or the Division Executive Committee in qualifying such persons for awards shall determine the extent and value of services rendered by prior chairs.
The awards shall be an unframed certificate in a folder and given at a reasonable time after the standard has been submitted for publication or has been actually published. The award may be presented at a scheduled meeting of the Council or the Division Executive Committee or a meeting deemed appropriate for the recipient.

1. Service to the Institute (Council/EXCOM) Award
This award are given in recognition of extensive and outstanding service to the Institute and/or it's predecessor divisions. They are presented annually at an appropriate divisional meeting - normally the annual meeting of the EWRI. Recipients need not be members of ASCE. Nominations can come from any technical or administrative committee or from individuals on an "at large" basis. Nominations should reach the Awards Committee chair by November 1.

The award consists of a mounted certificate.
2. Service to the Profession (Council) Award
The Water Resources Planning and Management Division (now EWRI) of the Society established this award to recognize and honor a person or persons for outstanding leadership, activities, and achievement in service to the profession in the field of water resources planning. Given annually to a person or persons who have provided outstanding service to the profession in water resources through the institute, councils, local sections, or other organizational units of the Society. Historically, this nomination comes from the Planning and Management Council. The recipient/s must be a member/s of the Society. The award is a wall clock, with appropriate inscription and an ASCE plaque.
3. Task Committee Excellence Award
Any task committee under the Institute's purview can receive this award in recognition of an outstanding effort and product. It is presented annually at an appropriate divisional meeting - normally the annual meeting of the EWRI. Nominations can come from any technical or administrative committee or from individuals on an "at large" basis. It is desirable, however that these nominations have the support of the control members of the appropriate parent committee. Nominations should reach the Awards Committee chair by November 1.
In the event that no nominations are received, the Awards Committee may formulate recommendations of its own or decline to submit any nominations.
4. Outstanding Achievement Award
The Outstanding Achievement Award is an award to acknowledge exceptional performance of an important task or series of activities over a short period of time that advances the work of the water resources planning and management profession. Examples of such performance include unusual achievement in establishing and chairing a task committee, exceptional effort in revitalizing an existing standing committee or creating a new committee, authoring an exceptional paper, or being responsible for the design and implementation of an exceptional water resources project. The award is usually an ASCE plaque.

It is customary to recognize the routine service of any member of the EWRI who has satisfactorily completed a term of service on the GB or any committee or council

There are three types of EWRI approved certificates of appreciation

Type 1 - Given to the outgoing EWRI GB members, outgoing EXCOM members, outgoing members of other committees/councils reporting directly to the EWRI GB and other EWRI members or nonmembers that the EWRI GB feels is especially deserving. The certificate consists of one of several standard certificates preprinted for each position title, the committee name, and the recipient's name. An appropriate frame or mounting is provided. Only the EWRI GB can authorize Type 1 certificates. Normally those certificates are presented at a function at which the GB members are in attendance. However, the committee/council may request approval to present the certificate at a conference or similar event at which the EWRI GB might not be in attendance.
Type 2 - Given to other outgoing standing committee/council members. The certificate consists of a standard service certificated preprinted with the words "FOR SERVICES AS COMMITTEE/ COUNCIL CHAIR (or other appropriate designation)", the committee name, and the recipient's name. A frame or mounting may be provided. The appropriate EXCOM may authorize the issuance of Type 2 certificates and may present those at a time and place at its discretion.
Type 3 - All other certificates of appreciation (e.g. conference steering committee members, task committee members, etc) take the form of a standard certificate with the recipient's name and citation typed thereon. A frame or mounting may be provided. The appropriate EXCOM may authorize the issuance of Type 3 certificates and may present those at a time and place at its discretion.
