Environmental Multi-Media Council: Member Recruitment Article

Are you interested in solid waste issues, such as development of bioreactor landfills or disposal of foundry molds? How about researching risk assessment methods for hazardous waste sites and/or furthering the discussion of risk due to arsenic in drinking water? Would you like to help compile and publish innovative technologies and/or pollution prevention techniques? Or help develop manuals of practice, which will help you in your profession? If you answered yes to any of these questions and more, the EWRI's Environmental Multi-Media Council is the place for you!

The topics mentioned above are just a few of the myriad projects that fall under the broad umbrella of the EMM Council, which covers most of the technical area of the former ASCE Environmental Engineering Division. Thus, any topic related to Environmental Engineering is fair game to pursue, and the Council can form and fund technical committees to pursue specific projects. The only catch is that the effort must result in a product of use to environmental engineers and their colleagues. Typical products or services include conference sessions and journal publications, books or manuals of practice, and continuing education courses or workshops/seminars.

The Council and its committees are looking for new active members who will participate in their work. You don't have to attend meetings to be an active member. The Council holds quarterly conference calls in addition to the annual meeting, plus regular email communications. You can contribute by researching topics, writing and/or reviewing papers, discussing possible continuing education with the Communications Council, or coordinating the efforts of others. Email makes coordination easy, so your geographic location does not matter. There is a lot of talent amongst EWRI members; won't you volunteer some of your expertise to further the knowledge and discourse on environmental engineering matters?

Interested members should contact Wendy Cohen, the EMM Council's News Correspondent, via e-mail at wcohen@dcn.org, and she will help you get started and become active in the EMM Council!
