This will be my last version of "Bradley's Bytes" as EWRI President. Cecil Lue-Hing officially took over as EWRI President on October 1, 2002. It has been a pleasure for me to serve EWRI during the first three years of the Institute's existence. I believe we have come a long way towards eliminating bureaucracy and becoming quicker on our feet as an organization over this period. We are actively implementing our strategic plan, our vision and goals for the organization. I especially want to thank EWRI staff for their efforts this year, in particular Brian Parsons, Autumn Richter and Wayne Davis as well as others. Autumn in particular, in addition to her normal job description ended up running several of our summer conferences with great success.

We had six conferences this summer which were all successes both their reviews by the membership and economically. Next year, we return to the EWRI International Congress format. Mark your calendar and plan to attend EWRI's 2003 World Water and Environmental Resources Congress which will be held at the Adams Mark Hotel in Philadelphia, PA, June 23-26, 2003. I just returned from the 9th International Conference on Urban Drainage in Portland, OR which was held in collaboration with the International Association for Hydraulic Research, IAHR. That conference had in excess of 600 attendees and has received excellent reviews. The Proceedings are now available from ASCE. Please visit their web page to take a look at them.

Prior to the Portland conference EWRI had a leadership meeting in Portland with the technical committee leadership of the Institute and the other service groups. It provided an opportunity for me to see how many technical activities and projects are going forward within EWRI. We have an amazing number of projects ongoing that are very exciting to see. The main emphasis for this meeting was to provide a forum to gain new ideas for the technical advancement of the profession, and implementation of the ideas that surfaced at last year's visioning workshop of the membership held in Reno, NV. As have done before, I challenge you the membership of EWRI to get involved with these committees and projects, and I also challenge the Technical Councils and Committees to take the leading role in developing some new and active initiatives in the upcoming year. The brainstorming session in Reno provided a number of excellent ideas and projects for the EWRI to implement over the next decade. Results from that workshop are available to all from EWRI staff.

Again, it has been a pleasure for me to serve as a Founding Member of EWRI and as President of the Institute.
