Artificial Recharge of Ground Water Standards Committee Meets
by Lloyd C. Fowler
The Artificial Recharge of Ground Water Standards Committee met in June 2002 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The Committee needs additional members to cover such ground water recharge subjects as bank storage, maintenance of recharge rates, incidental recharge, measurement of recharge rates, and aquifer storage and recovery systems. In addition, the existing manual, EWRI-ASCE 34-01 "Standard Guidelines for Artificial Recharge of Ground Water" must be reviewed every five years and findings be made as to whether it is adequate as is, needs changes or revisions, or is no longer needed.
Anyone with ideas related to ground water recharge is wanted to suggest and prepare potential new manuals. Contact Ivan Johnson at 7474 Upham Court, Arvada CO 80003, phone: (303) 425-5610, or fax: (303) 425-5655. The ARGW-SC considered the ground water data base accumulated in past years. The form for coding the information is under review, and a test case using Salt River Project, Arizona, will be under way soon.
The Committee considered participation in EWRI meetings in 2003 and 2004 with potential workshops on aquifer storage and recovery systems. ASCE endorsed the Fourth International Symposium of Artificial Recharge of Ground Water held in Adelaide, Australia, in September 2002. Under consideration is participation of EWRI-ASCE in a symposium on ground water recharge to be held in Panama in 2005. This could be the Fifth International Symposium.
