2002 Parsons Brinckerhoff Student Design Competition Update
|
First Place Team from Tufts University
|
The 2002 edition of the Parsons Brinckerhoff Student Design Competition was held at the Water Resources Planning and Management conference in Roanoke, VA. As with previous years, several excellent abstracts were submitted for consideration. Four were selected for presentation at the conference. Student teams from Tufts University, Catholic University, Virginia Tech, and Gonzaga each presented their senior design projects in a session at the conference.
Four students from Tufts University, Shannon Cahill, Julie Litzenberger, Becca Pease, and Jeff Wong captured first place in the competition. Their project, "The Design of Technologies to Reduce Internal and External Loadings of Phosphorus to a Eutrophic Pond," described remediation and control efforts for Spy Pond in Arlington, MA.
The annual competition, sponsored by Parsons Brinckerhoff, allows students an opportunity to present their projects at a national conference, and receive recognition for their notable work. Parsons Brinckerhoff helps defray expenses for attendance at the conference. EWRI provides the winning students with a year's free membership and a year's subscription to the EWRI journal of their choice. Watch this fall for an announcement for next year's competition.
