Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering
Seeks Authors and Reviewers

The Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering is one of the oldest ASCE journals. The journal covers all phases of irrigation, drainage, engineering hydrology and related water management subjects, such as watershed management, weather modification, water quality, ground water and surface water.

There are a number of ways you may publish in the journal. If you are involved in research, design or engineering practice there is the opportunity to submit technical papers or technical notes for publication in the journal. The journal seeks papers that emphasize new developments and research, as well as case studies and practical applications of engineering. Papers are limited to 10,000 words or word-equivalents and technical notes are limited to 3,500 words or word-equivalents.

If you are not in a position to write a paper or technical note, there are other ways you can contribute to the journal. If you have an opinion on a subject and would like to express it in writing or generate some discussion on a topic, you can write an editorial or forum and submit it to the journal. Editorials are limited to 1,500 words and forums are limited to 5,000 words. The journal also publishes book reviews on topics of interest to the readers. From time to time the editor is looking for people to do book reviews on new books that publishers submit to the journal or editor for a review. If you would be interested in doing a book review, contact the editor. Book reviews are limited to 1,200 words. The journal also publishes discussions on papers that have been published in the journal. In reading an article in the journal, you find that you have something that may add to the paper or you disagree with the authors, you can prepare a discussion and submit it to the journal. Discussions are limited to 2,000 words.

The editor is also seeking articles for a new type of forum called irrigation and drainage design. This type of forum will be similar to the construction and design forum in the Practice Periodical on Structural Design and Construction. If you have an interesting project or design, you could submit an article to the design forum. Articles must be technical and are limited to two printed pages in the journal. The articles will not receive as extensive review as technical papers or technical notes.

Most papers and technical notes are reviewed by three reviewers with expertise on the topic. If you are interested in reviewing papers for the journal and have not been asked to review a paper in the past 12 to 24 months contact the editor indicating your interest in reviewing papers and indicate you area(s) of expertise. The editor of the Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering is William Ritter of the Bioresources Engineering Department at the University of Delaware. He can be contacted by email: william.ritter@udel.edu, phone: (302) 821-2468 or fax: (302) 831-2469. If you have any questions about the journal or anything in this article contact the editor.
