The ASCE Solid Waste Engineering (SWE) Committee is Looking for New Members

The mission of the SWE committee is "to provide a forum for civil/environmental engineers to exchange information and ideas among themselves and with the general public regarding the various aspects of solid waste management including resource recovery, landfills, recycling, composting, incineration, waste-to-energy, and other methods of waste disposal, treatment and utilization".

We are looking for individuals interested in a wide range of solid waste management issues and willing to work with us on projects. Activities of the committee have been in the areas of landfill gas, landfill leachate, bioreactor landfills and compost design. One project we are currently considering is to organize an issue of the Practice Periodical of Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste Management on special wastes. Special wastes include electronic waste, construction and demolition waste, used oil, batteries, mercury waste, appliances, tires and biosolids.

Please contact SWE Co-chairs, Debra Reinhart reinhart@mail.ucf.edu or Carol Diggelman diggelma@msoe.edu if you are interested in joining the Solid Waste Engineering Committee and/or have an article on special waste to contribute.
