Obviously, our actions as water resource professionals have always had
great impact upon our built environment, and recent events serve only to
multiply this impact. However, the impact of our projects are often overlooked
or delegated to the unqualified. This results in the construction of projects
or the adoption of policies of questionable value.
EWRI provides a great opportunity for all water resource professionals to
take a leadership role in the development of far reaching policy. A case in
point would be the report "Dam Removal A New
Option for a New Century" discussed in this issue of Currents. This
report focuses on the policy and practice aspects of dam removal. Also, as
discussed in this issue the activities of the Water Infrastructure Security
Enhancement Standards Committee continue to gain in importance.
The items mentioned above are only the tip of the iceberg and numerous
other possibilities for input exist. Accordingly, if you have items that you
believe to be of use or interest to EWRI's membership, these may also be
featured in Currents. If you have input, feel free to contact me,
Michael T. Buechter, at (314) 421-1476 or buechter@pbworld.com. Remember this is
your newsletter and I am happy to work with anyone wishing to use it.
