Section and Branches Activities Council

Purpose
To foster and promote local activities in the environmental and water resources areas through the ASCE network.

Award for Local Section/Branch/Chapter
EWRI awards outstanding ASCE Section or Branch Environmental and/or Water Resource Technical Groups or EWRI Chapters for exemplary performance. For further details on this award and application procedures, click here.

Getting Started
If you want to start an EWRI Chapter, the local Section must revise its bylaws. Please click here for the model language for Section bylaws. The chapter can also adopt bylaws but many groups operate within the local Section's governing structure without bylaws. We are also pleased to work with new or existing groups organized under ASCE's structure. To view Local Institute Chapter sample bylaws, click here.

For information regarding the transition from a local group to an official chapter, please view the Four Steps to Institute Affiliation.

Speakers Bureau
The Council is in the process of developing a Speakers Bureau. Its purpose is to provide resources to local groups by identifying presenters who are willing to travel, if necessary, and present to local groups, depending on the arrangements between the group and the presenter. The current focus is authors of ASCE/EWRI publications. The Council beta tested this concept in Chicago by having the editor of ASCE's Guide for Best Management Practice (BMP) Selection in Urban Developed Areas attend a dinner meeting to discuss this publication. Arrangements were made by the local group. The cost was $60, which included dinner, the manual, and paid the presenter's expenses. If your group is interested in this or other presentations, please contact Cheryl Signs at c@cherylsignsengineering.com. Please see http://www.ewrinstitute.org/publications/ewri_asce.cfm to view a listing of EWRI publications.

Quarterly Newsletter
The Council will be emailing news and updates about the Council and EWRI to the local contacts listed below. This should keep you current on Council activities and inform you about resource opportunities that it offers.

Council Members

Council Membership
We are always interested in adding members to our Council. The time commitment is generally one annual meeting and several conference calls per year. Formulating the Council's direction is developing so we're looking for members who bring new ideas and enthusiasm. One of the benefits of council membership is the opportunity to receive partial funding for travel related expenses connected with council meetings. If you are interested, please contact EWRI at ewri@asce.org

Local Clearinghouse
Many of the local groups have interesting approaches, unique programs, and/or unusual issues. We hope that you could take the time to share your particular situation so that other groups can learn from or help with the issue. If you are interested in a message board, please contact Cheryl Signs by emailing c@cherylsignsengineering.com. In order to promote contact between local groups, the chairs and their contact information are listed below. If someone is listed who shouldn't be, please let us know by contacting Cheryl Signs. Please also tell us who should be listed.
